PRAYER OF THE DAY 

P:  Let us pray,

C: Almighty God, in your grace and steadfast love, you promised to send the Messiah, the Savior. The promise was repeated through the centuries as the prophets reminded your people of your covenant promise. Finally, when the time was right, you kept your promise. It was time for the Savior to be born. The angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would be the mother of the Messiah. She was to name him Jesus. Your covenant promise was fulfilled in the gift of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself as the sacrifice for the sins of the world. Lead us by your Spirit and light to walk in love, reflecting our Lord’s care and compassion in the world. 

(Pause – Light the Christ candle on the Advent wreath.) 

Hear our prayer in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
